<p>While the cost of onions increased after the conclusion of the Navaratri festivities, alarming both buyers and sellers, the basic vegetable’s quality did not improve.</p>
<p>The maximum price of onions increased to Rs 70 per kg, according to official statistics, and this increasing trend is expected to continue until December.</p>
<p>“High rates are the consequence of low onion inflow. The prices are Rs. 350 per kg as of right now. That was Rs. 300 yesterday. Prior to that, it was Rs. 200. The tariffs were Rs. 200, Rs. 160, Rs. 250, etc., a week ago. Over the last week, the rates have increased. A news source cited one onion merchant as stating, “There is a scarcity of supplies, which is why the prices have increased.</p>
<p>Onion prices increased not just in Delhi-NCR but also in Karnataka and Maharashtra, among other areas. Onions were priced between Rs 65 and Rs 70 per kg at the Agricultural Produce Market Committee (APMC) in Yeshwantpur, Bengaluru, according to a report.</p>
<p>In places where prices have increased, the Union Consumer Ministry made sure onions were being removed from the buffer stock in both the wholesale and retail sectors. Approximately 1.7 lakh tons of buffer onions have been offloaded at various places across 22 states since mid-August.</p>
<p>According to news agency PTI, Consumer Affairs Secretary Rohit Kumar Singh said, “We are stepping up the retail sale in order to check further rise in prices and provide relief to the consumers.” The department has been dumping buffer onions since mid-August.</p>
