Captain of the Indian women’s hockey team Savita Punia said, “Spain Tour is Crucial for Asian Games Preparations”

At the Senior Women’s National Coaching Camp, which runs from June 11 to July 11 at SAI in Bengaluru, the Indian women’s hockey team is now working out. Notably, the Hangzhou Asian Games, which are set to take place in China from September to October this year, have a 33-member core probables group that was announced for the training camp.

For the Indian women’s hockey squad, the Hangzhou Asian Games will be vital since a gold medal in the quadrennial continental championship game would guarantee them automatic qualifying for the Paris 2024 Olympics. The Indian women’s hockey team will also have the chance to test their abilities and team combinations before the important tournament when they travel to Spain to compete in the 100th Anniversary Spanish Hockey Federation-International Tournament, which is scheduled to take place from July 25 to July 30.<img decoding=”async” loading=”lazy” class=”alignnone wp-image-30503″ src=”https://www.theindiaprint.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/06/www.theindiaprint.com-captain-of-the-indian-womens-hockey-team-savita-punia-said-spain-tour-is-crucial-for-asian-games-preparations-download-2023-06-19t173105.872.jpg” alt=”” width=”1280″ height=”852″ />

India will compete against South Africa, England, and host Spain in the four-nation competition.

The captain of the Indian women’s hockey team, Savita, said of the competition in Spain, “It will be a vital event for us as it will help us to highlight the areas that need urgent attention and require team effort to progress. In a sense, it will serve as a litmus test for us before the Asian Games since we will be competing against some of the best teams in the competition.

In the meanwhile, Savita commented on the ongoing National Camp, saying, “We are now focused on delivering our best effort in every session at the National Camp, which is extremely significant for us as it offers us a chance to improve the team’s organizational and tactical framework before the Asian Games. Our duty is made simpler since we are aware of what our coach wants from us as a team. We must continue to put in a lot of effort each day in training, however, since we are certain that the more we train, the less we will suffer in the real competition.

Additionally, each player will now need to demonstrate her talent in every practice and game in order to join the Asian Games team. The Indian Women’s Hockey Junior Team just won the Junior Asia Cup, and its many excellent players will be vying for spots on the senior squad. As a result, no athlete may assume that she will always be on the squad. Everybody has a chance to make the Asian Games squad or not. I think that robust competition for team spots like this will only serve to increase the side’s intimidating nature.

Savita continued, “In Australia, our performance in the first game wasn’t up to par, but it was understandable given that we were playing international hockey after a four-month break. We played five matches against the hosts. As a result, the team had certain challenges in forging their synergy. Nevertheless, we were able to maintain our position all through the trip. Our staff is starting to exhibit this resiliency more and more. Our greatest competitive advantage in the Asian Games will be our ability to play and battle as a team, which presents a serious challenge to any adversary.
