WTC Final 2023: Cheteshwar Pujara is likely to succeed Rohit Sharma as India's captain and will soon join the team

There are a few questions for the Rohit Sharma-led side that require answers with less than a month till the much anticipated World Test Championship final between India and Australia. Who leads the Indian team's vice-captaincy? Rohit's deputy was not disclosed when the Indian board made the squad announcement. Cheteshwar Pujara is now expected to be designated Rohit's backup for the Test against Australia, according to a report on InsideSport.

Pujara is going to serve as vice-captain. Even though everyone is aware of it, it is not acknowledged in writing. He will be referred to as the vice captain when the final team is sent to the ICC. It's nice to see Cheteshwar in form and playing well for Sussex, a top BCCI official told InsideSport.

Pujara, who is captaining Sussex in the current County Championship, has tallied 115, 35, 18, 13, 151, 136, and 77 runs so far this year. He will undoubtedly be India's primary participant in the WTC final given his alarming performance in such circumstances.

“Pujara will take a little break to rest up before rejoining the team. Since he has been playing cricket nonstop, he needs to rest up before the championship game. He's supposed to arrive in camp on May 28 or 29. On May 23, Dravid will go there, along with a few of the players and coaching staff, the BCCI official said.

India's team for WTC final: Rohit Sharma (Captain), Shubman Gill, Cheteshwar Pujara, Virat Kohli, Ajinkya Rahane, KS Bharat (wk), Ravichandran Ashwin, Ravindra Jadeja, Axar Patel, Shardul Thakur, Mohd. Shami, Mohd. Siraj, Umesh Yadav, Jaydev Unadkat, Ishan Kishan (wk).
